Karen is a Professor and Canada Research Chair at UBC, a Rhodes Scholar, Top 40 Under 40, and author. A proven entrepreneur, she is also the founder of a successful online ed­uca­tion company.

Kyle Robertson

Co-Founder and CTO

Kyle is the former Web Director at Adbusters Media Foundation. Having coded since the age of twelve, and distance learned through secondary school, he has years of experience as an online learner.

Stuart Bowness

‎VP Learning at Workday, EDU Startup Advisor - ‎Workday

Stuart is a passionate edtech entrepreneur, and is currently the VP Learning Experience at Workday. Stuart was previously the co-founder and CEO of MediaCore, which was acquired by Workday in 2015. He started MediaCore in 2011 with the mission of transforming learning with video. Before its acquisition, MediaCore grew to serve 100+ customers concentrated in North America and Europe, serving leading educational institutions like Yale, Brown, and Columbia. Stuart is now leading Workday’s focus on developing its global learning platform.

Murray Goldberg

CEO and Founder, MarineLMS

Murray is the CEO and founder of MarineLMS. In 1995 Goldberg developed the world’s first commercially successful Learning Management System, which grew to become WebCT. Widely acknowledged as a key pioneer in the field of Learning Management Systems, Goldberg is the recipient of numerous awards, including the $100,000 national Manning Award for Innovation, the national Canarie IWAY award for his contributions to information technology, and the national New Media Hyperion award for his contributions to learning technologies.

Krista Jones

Head of Work and Learning, MaRS Accelerator

At MaRS, Krista currently heads the Work and Learning Cluster, an emerging sector that is revolutionizing both how we acquire knowledge and how we put it to good use.

Krista has been a passionate innovator and builder of technology-based businesses since 1988. To date, Krista has personally advised over 350 startups and worked with 1,300 ventures in the ICE industries. Krista and her husband owned a children’s technology educational franchise that fostered early innovation and creativity in robotics, animation, digital art and video game design.

Jenny Yip

Program Investment Officer, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Jenny Yip is a Program Investment Officer on the Program Related Investments team at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Jenny was previously at Goldman Sachs where she was a Vice President and Business Unit Manager in the Investment Banking Division, responsible for leading financial advisory assignments for clients in the technology, media and telecom sectors in New York and San Francisco.

David Raffa

M&A Advisor, Corporate Finance Expert

David is an independent investment banker and advisor to small cap industrial and technology companies. After a career as a corporate lawyer specializing in the tech industry, he founded a $100 million tech investment fund, where he served as portfolio manager for over a decade. He is now an advisor and board member for public and private companies. His passion is helping early stage tech companies grow and succeed.

Birgit Troy

VP Finance and Administration, Incognito

As VP Finance and Administration, Birgit manages the financial operations of Incognito, partnering with all functions across the organization to lead strategic planning, forecasting, revenue growth, and acquisitions. Birgit is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and holds an MBA from the University of Victoria. An expert in process improvement, Birgit is also the co-author of Total Quality Management: Theory and Practice (Oldenbourg, 1998).
